Lion's Roar Dharma Center

Letters from Lama Yeshe Jinpa

April 13, 2005

Dear Friends,

Next month, on May 11th, I will be traveling to my monastery, Sera-je, in India , in order to take my full monastic vows. I will be completing the commitment I made to my beloved teacher Geshe Losang Gyatso when he gave me Dharma Transmission over ten years ago.

This past January, when the Venerable Geshe Thupten Phelgye visited Lion’s Roar, he offered to arrange the ordination for me with Sera-je’s Abbot. I immediately accepted. For some, this is known already. For others, it will come as a surprise. Monastic vows are the next step for me in my Dharma training and practice and for my teaching commitment at Lion’s Roar Dharma Center.

I am asking for your practice and financial support for my travels in this next step in my journey. The estimated expenses for my trip are over $5,000.00. Of this, $1,500.00 has already generously been raised. Travel is the main expense.

For over ten years I have worked fulltime as a licensed psychotherapist in addition to my extensive Lama commitments. Now, I must cut back my professional work and spend more time on personal retreats as well as leading retreats for Lion’s Roar. Please help me realize this goal.

I will be happy to speak to anyone about my trip, monastic vows and my vision for Lion’s Roar. Your may see me at the Gompa, or call me at 916-224-2163. May all be auspicious!

Yours in Dharma,
Lama Yeshe Jinpa
