Ongoing Dharma Practices
The core of Buddhist meditation training
is based on yoga techniques taught by Shakyamuni Buddha
and successive teachers. These techniques include sitting
meditation, used to develop calm, awareness, and finally
insight, as well as walking meditation. Imaginal practice
is also used to creatively work with aspects of our own
self nature through imagining Buddhas such as Tara, Chenresig
or Vajrasattva. Discussions and Dharma talks help integrate
these techniques into our daily life.
All weekly events at Lion's Roar Dharma Center are open to the public and beginners are welcome.
Please take some time to familiarize yourself with the Temple
Rules and General Buddhist
Etiquette.

Please join us every other Sunday for teachings and practice. The morning begins with silent meditation (7:30-8:30 a.m.). Lama Jinpa and Chris Wing will lead Pandita, our book study/discussion group (9 - 10:30 a.m.). Following that, deity practices will be held, including Medicine Buddha, Chenresig, and White Tara (11 a.m.- 12 p.m.); please see the calendar for specific dates.
On Chenresig:
Every single living being wishes to have happiness and does not wish to experience suffering. Compassion is the wish to free living beings from all their undesired suffering and its cause. Chenrezig embodies this compassion. The Chenrezig mantra has power because the holy speech of Chenrezig is embodied in the sound and letters of the mantra. Reciting this mantra even one time can purify many lifetimes of negative karma.
On Medicine Buddha:
Medicine Buddha's blue sky-colored holy body signifies omniscient wisdom and compassion as vast as limitless space and is particularly associated with healing both mental and physical suffering. Making a connection with him, practicing meditation, reciting his mantra or even just saying his name helps us achieve our potential for ultimate healing. Please sign up at the gompa if you would like to add someone in need of prayer to the dedication prayer list; we request a donation for this practice, for sangha support.
Pandita
Pandita refers to scholarly activity in Sanskrit; the intention of this class is to deeply examine core texts (sutras) of Buddhism through discussion and debate with Lama Jinpa and the sangha, supported by individual meditation and study. Come prepared for questions and questioning!

Free Together: In the Dharma
Living Room
Every Thursday
7:00 - 8:30 pm
In addition to sitting meditation and occasional mantra
and song, Constance Carter leads an informal discussion
of Sangha-building practices and issues as presented in
texts recommended by Lama Yeshe Jinpa.
Thursday evening discussions provide an opportunity for
Sangha members to explore questions relevant to building
our Dharma community in an informal, safe environment while
getting to know each other and actually building Sangha.
It’s more than just talk—we’re putting
our practice into action as we relate to each other.
